Dr. Martyn Clark

Biography

Martyn Clark is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary. He holds a PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder, completed in 1998. As a Schulich Research Chair in Environmental Prediction, he has significant leadership experience, serving as the Executive Co-Director of the Research for the United Nations University Hub at the University of Calgary. His research primarily focuses on advancing environmental prediction by developing mechanistic terrestrial systems models. These models have wide-ranging applications, including environmental forecasting aimed at predicting floods and assessing water quality threats, as well as evaluating climate impact assessments to understand vulnerabilities at multiple spatial scales. He has contributed to the field as Editor-In-Chief of Water Resources Research from 2017 to 2020 and was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union in 2016. Over his career, Dr. Clark has authored and co-authored 250 journal articles, significantly influencing the understanding of Earth System prediction, specifically regarding the land component of Earth System models.
