Martyna Michalska is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London. She received her PhD in Physical Sciences specializing in nanobiotechnology from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, in 2015. Her research has focused on the development of heavy metal-free quantum dots for bioimaging applications. From 2016 to 2019, she was a postdoctoral appointee at Argonne National Laboratory in the USA, where she worked on bioinspired nanopatterned coatings with antimicrobial properties. Following her postdoctoral work, she joined University College London, in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, where she leads efforts to fabricate bioinspired nanostructures tailored for smart window applications and multifunctional surfaces. Her research aims to develop advanced materials and engineering components that can induce targeted properties for energy and healthcare applications, with a particular interest in controlling cell behavior at the bio-material interface. Recently, her efforts have been centered on the creation of mechano-bactericidal surfaces.
