Biography

Marvin Sirbu is a Professor in the Engineering Public Policy department at Carnegie Mellon University and has been a faculty member since July 1990. He is the founder of Carnegie Mellon’s Information Networking Institute, which provides graduate executive education on information networking technology and business policy. Before joining CMU, Sirbu taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management where he directed the Research Program on Communications Policy. From 1985 to 1999, he served on the Federal Communications Commission's Technological Advisory Council and participated in various panels at the U.S. National Research Council. His research interests focus on telecommunications and information technology policy management. He has investigated topics such as multi-network access, economic impacts of broadband, future Internet architecture, and spectrum policy, among others. He holds multiple patents in the area of electronic commerce and has contributed to understanding government policies that stimulate innovation.
