Dr. Mary Hunter Mcdonnell

Biography

Mary-Hunter McDonnell is the Bantwal Family Goldman Sachs Presidential Associate Professor and an Associate Professor of Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a PhD in Management Organizations from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and a JD from Harvard Law School. McDonnell's research interests include organizational theory, with a focus on political sociology, institutional theory, nonmarket strategy, corporate governance, and the punishment of corporate misconduct. She has published award-winning research in top-tier peer-reviewed journals such as the Academy of Management Journal and the American Sociological Review. Previously, she held faculty positions at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business and Northwestern University Law School. McDonnell serves on the editorial boards for several leading academic journals and has taught various executive education programs aimed at enhancing leadership and strategic management skills. Her work addresses the complexities of governance in challenging institutional contexts, particularly in turbulent social and regulatory environments.
