Mary Ann Hopkins, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and an active leader in surgical education and global health. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Hopkins specializes in hernia surgery, particularly laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, offering patients minimally invasive surgical options that significantly enhance recovery times and comfort. She is deeply involved in surgical education, serving as the founding editor and current editor-in-chief of WISE-Surgery, a series of innovative online surgical education modules utilized in over 120 medical and nursing schools across North America. As a former president of the American College of Surgeons and the Association for Surgical Education, Dr. Hopkins reflects a strong commitment to nurturing future generations of surgeons. Additionally, she has dedicated time to global health initiatives, volunteering with Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) in various conflict zones since 1996. At NYU Langone, she has worked as the director of global health initiatives, playing a pivotal role in developing a global surgery track for surgical residents.
