Mary Jean Chan is a Departmental Lecturer in Lifelong Learning (Creative Writing: Poetry) at the University of Oxford and a Research Fellow at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. She was recently named the 2023-24 Judith E. Wilson Poetry Fellow at the University of Cambridge and served as a judge for the Booker Prize in 2023. Chan is the author of the poetry collection 'Flèche', published by Faber & Faber in 2019 and by Faber USA in 2020. 'Flèche' was awarded the 2019 Costa Book Award for Poetry and was shortlisted for the International Dylan Thomas Prize, John Pollard Foundation International Poetry Prize, Jhalak Prize, Seamus Heaney Centre Collection Poetry Prize, and the Lambda Literary Award. Her recent book, 'Bright Fear', published in 2023, was shortlisted for the Guardian Poetry Book Prize and the Forward Prize for Best Collection. Additionally, Chan co-edited the acclaimed anthology '100 Queer Poems' in 2022 and co-wrote the pamphlet 'Siblings', which is set to be published in 2024 and has been selected as the Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice.
