Biography

Mary Johnstone-Louis is a Senior Fellow in Management Practice at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She is a regular contributor to Forbes.com and co-author of the Financial Guide for Sustainable Business. Mary’s published works have featured in prestigious publications such as the Harvard Business Review and the Oxford Review of Economic Policy. With a focus on strategy governance, systems thinking, and responsible business practices, Mary has conducted research across five continents, gaining insights from diverse fieldwork in locations like Bangladesh and South Africa. She has traveled to over 50 countries, equipping her with a global perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing today’s leaders. Mary's current research interests delve into systems-led approaches to strategy governance and mechanisms that enable companies to fulfill their long-term commitments, as well as exploring the emerging field of regenerative business practices. Throughout her career, she has published on a wide range of sustainability topics, particularly the role of women in business and the significance of private family businesses in sustainability governance. Mary has extensive governance experience, serving as Board Chair for B Lab UK and as a board member for the Blueprint for Better Business. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Business Fights Poverty Institute and an advisor to various leading businesses in Europe and the UK. In her teaching role, Mary leads the design of high-impact, research-based programmes for MBA and EMBA students and has trained over 5,000 participants from 70 different countries.
