Mary Jo Kirisits is a professor in the Environmental Water Resources Engineering program at the University of Texas at Austin. She completed her B.S. in Civil Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and both her M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After finishing a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University, she joined the faculty at the University of Texas. Her research interests focus on drinking water biofiltration, opportunistic human pathogens, the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on wastewater, and antimicrobial resistance in bacteria. Currently, she leads a multi-institution project funded by the U.S. EPA that examines opportunistic pathogens and disinfection by-products in drinking water distribution systems.
