Dr. Mary Lui

Biography

Mary Lui is a Professor in the Department of American Studies and History at Yale University, where her primary research interests include Asian American history, urban history, women's and gender studies, and public history. She is the author of 'Chinatown Trunk Mystery: Murder, Miscegenation, and Dangerous Encounters in Turn-of-the-Century New York City' published by Princeton University Press in 2005. This book examines a 1909 unsolved murder case to explore themes of race, gender, and interracial sexual relations within the cultural and social spatial formation of New York City's Chinatown between 1870 and 1920.
