Biography

Professor Neuburger's research focuses on modern eastern Europe with a specialization in southeastern Europe. Her research interests encompass urban culture, consumption, commodity exchange, and the intersections of truth, science, and religion. She has authored monographs, edited books, and numerous articles. Some of her notable works include 'Orient Muslim Minorities: Negotiation of Nationhood in Modern Bulgaria' (Cornell 2004), 'Balkan Smoke: Tobacco and the Making of Modern Bulgaria' (Cornell, 2012), and 'Ingredients of Change: History, Culture, and Food in Modern Bulgaria' (Cornell, 2022). Additionally, she served as co-editor with Paulina Bren on 'Communism Unwrapped: Consumption in Cold War Eastern Europe' (Oxford, 2012) and contributed to 'The Wider Arc of Revolution: The Global Impact of 1917' (2 volumes, Slavica Press, 2019).
