Biography

Mary Ann Parker is a distinguished musicologist known for her expertise in the music of Handel and the Italian opera of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. After temporary teaching appointments at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, she joined the Faculty at the University of Toronto in 1982. Parker is the author of 'Baroque Libretto' (University of Toronto Press, 2011), co-authored with Domenico Pietropaolo, and has substantially revised the book 'G.F. Handel: Research Guide', published by Routledge in 2005. She served as the editor for 'Eighteenth Century Music Theory Practice: Essays in Honor of Alfred Mann' (Pendragon, 1994). Her scholarly articles and reviews have been published in esteemed journals including the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Music & Letters, the University of Toronto Quarterly, Händel-Jahrbuch, and Göttinger Händel-Beiträge. Professor Parker is a Continuing Senior Fellow at Massey College, furthering her contributions to the field of musicology through her extensive research and publications.
