Biography

Maryam Badv is an Assistant Professor in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, with research focusing on the design and optimization of multifunctional biomaterials for biomedical applications. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at McMaster University, where her dissertation concentrated on developing biofunctional lubricant-infused surface coatings for medical implants. Her work has led to the publication of 14 peer-reviewed papers and 6 conference presentations. Badv also holds multiple patents related to her research. As a graduate student, she demonstrated leadership as the President of the Engineering Graduate Society at McMaster, where she was recognized with the Mary Keyes Award for Outstanding Leadership Service. After her PhD, she undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA funded by the NSERC, contributing to interdisciplinary projects in tissue engineering. Together with her research team at Badv Lab, she aims to develop novel biomaterials capable of improving health outcomes in various biomedical scenarios.
