Professor Dr. Maryam Ghodrat

Biography

Maryam Ghodrat is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in 2014 and her Master of Engineering in 2010, both from UNSW. Dr. Ghodrat specializes in thermal fluid energy systems, with a key focus on combustion science, safety, and the impact of climate change on thermal systems. Her research involves leading teams on heat transfer, combustion, adaptive design, and resilient infrastructures. In 2021, she established the Pyrometric Laboratory to conduct fundamental research on the behavior of materials and products exposed to flames. She supervises multiple PhD and research assistant students, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to develop robust and scalable solutions in fire safety and resilience. Dr. Ghodrat has received several awards for her research excellence, including recognition as a top 2% highly cited researcher globally in recent years. She has published extensively and is involved in various professional committees related to fire safety and fluid dynamics.
