Biography

Maryam Ohadi-Hamadani is an art historian and curator specializing in modern contemporary art and global diasporas, with a focus on postcolonial histories of African, Afro-Caribbean, Asian, and Black British art in Britain. She earned her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin under the supervision of Dr. Eddie Chambers, with her dissertation titled 'The Commonwealth Abstraction: Black Artists London, 1948-72' (2019). Maryam has served as a postdoctoral research associate at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut, where she co-curated the exhibition 'Bridget Riley: Perceptual Abstraction' in 2022. She has held numerous curatorial positions across various institutions, including the Wichita Art Museum and Ulrich Museum of Art in Wichita, Kansas, as well as the Cleveland Museum of Art and Tate Liverpool in the UK. Maryam has published widely on diasporic artists including Denis Williams, Frank Bowling, and the Caribbean Artists Movement.
