Maryam Parhizkar is an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutics at University College London, where she has been a lecturer in Pharmaceutical Engineering since 2019. She earned her Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University in 2007. Prior to her academic career, she worked at Jacobs Engineering Consultancy on various engineering design projects. She pursued her Doctoral research at University College London under the supervision of Professor Mohan Edirisnghe, focusing on Biomaterials Processing. Her PhD research involved experimental multiphase flow studies aimed at optimizing microfluidic processing techniques for high throughput production of coated microbubbles, as well as designing 3D scaffold platforms for novel protein-coated microbubbles. Following her PhD completion in 2014, she served as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate on an EPSRC funded project that explored methods for optimizing the delivery of the potent anticancer agent cisplatin for head and neck cancer treatment, collaborating with institutions such as the Eastman Dental Institute and Oxford University's Institute of Biomedical Engineering. She has also held a lectureship at the University of East London, where she contributed to the development of a new BEng programme in Mechanical Engineering.
