Maryam Shanechi is the Alexander A. Sawchuk Chair Electrical Computer Engineering Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC). She is a member of the Neuroscience Graduate Program and the founding director of the new USC Center for Neurotechnology. She joined USC as an Assistant Professor in July 2014, following a position as an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Cornell University. Maryam earned her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto in 2004, and her S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2006 and 2011, respectively. She has conducted postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and dynamical systems to develop algorithmic solutions for fundamental clinical neuroscience problems. She has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to the field, including the NIH Director's New Innovator Award and being named a Fellow of IEEE.
