Dr. Maryam Sharifzadeh Amin

Biography

Maryam Sharifzadeh-Amin graduated with a dentistry degree (D.M.D.) from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran and obtained both her M.Sc. in Dental Sciences and Ph.D. in Oral Health Sciences from the University of British Columbia in Canada. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Health Education and received a certificate in 'Teaching in Higher Education' from the University of British Columbia. As a dedicated educator and researcher, her work primarily focuses on the oral health needs of marginalized populations, particularly young children. At the University of Alberta, she has established a significant research program that collaborates with stakeholders and community organizations to improve oral health care accessibility. Since joining the University of Alberta as an Assistant Professor, she has successfully engaged in over 30 funded research projects, resulting in more than 75 peer-reviewed publications, predominantly in children's oral health. Her research interests include the psychosocial determinants of oral health and the barriers to accessing dental care, with a special focus on community-based oral health promotion programs that cater to the unique needs of different societal subgroups.
