Biography

Maryse Fortin joined the Department of Health, Kinesiology & Applied Physiology at Concordia University as an Associate Professor in July 2019, after serving as a Research Scientist for two years at the PERFORM Centre. She holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Alberta and has completed postdoctoral fellowships at McGill University in Orthopedic Spine Surgery and at the PERFORM Centre. Dr. Fortin's research expertise lies in musculoskeletal spine imaging and rehabilitation, focusing on the role of paraspinal muscles in the development and recurrence of low back and neck pain. Her research employs advanced MRI and ultrasound techniques to quantify muscle degeneration and identify factors related to persistent pain and disability. Additionally, she examines the impact of different exercise therapies on chronic low back pain and overall paraspinal muscle health.
