Dr. Marzieh Amini

Biography

Marzieh Amini is an Associate Professor at Carleton University, where she coordinates the Optical Systems Sensors undergraduate program within the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering and is cross-appointed in the School of Information Technology. Her research interests span a range of cutting-edge topics including computer vision, remote sensing, autonomous vehicles, sensor fusion, and biomedical signal processing. Amini has successfully secured numerous grants for her research work, including funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Kenneth M. Molson Foundation, and the NRC Transportation Program. She has previously served as a data scientist at BlueCity.ai, where she was involved in developing automatic traffic monitoring systems utilizing 3D LiDAR sensors. Her academic journey included a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University's Visual Motor Research Lab and a lecturing position in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at McGill University. Amini is also an active member of the academic community, serving on various editorial boards and organizing committees, including the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society. She has received recognition for her contributions in the field, including a FRQNT postdoctoral fellowship and ranking in Nature Technology category. Amini is passionate about advancing women in engineering and has participated in several initiatives to promote diversity within technical fields. Her research outputs include numerous publications in prestigious journals and active engagement in international conferences.
