Biography

Marzyeh Ghassemi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Core Faculty member of the Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES). She holds the CIFAR AI Chair at the Vector Institute and previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Ghassemi’s research focuses on computational biology and clinical informatics, where she employs machine learning techniques to enhance healthcare outcomes. She has an extensive academic background, having received her PhD in Computer Science from MIT in 2017, an MS in Biomedical Engineering from Oxford University, and a BS in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University. An accomplished scholar, Ghassemi has published extensively in high-impact venues and has been recognized as one of MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35. Additionally, she has played a significant role in several committees and activities aimed at enhancing diversity and inclusion within academia.
