Biography

Masako Hirotani is an Associate Professor in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at Carleton University, specializing in psycholinguistics and cognitive neuroscience. She earned her PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where her research focused on mechanisms of human language processing. Dr. Hirotani has held a postdoctoral research position at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany. Her research interests include adult sentence processing, the use of auditory information in sentence processing, and the neural correlates of language processing. She is dedicated to understanding how dialectal differences impact educational outcomes and aims to promote inclusivity and acceptance of dialects and neuro-diversity in language education. In addition to her academic responsibilities, she is the director of Carleton's Language & Brain Laboratory and is actively involved in the Centre for Applied Cognitive Research and the Visualization Simulation Centre. She teaches various courses in linguistics and has published numerous articles in reputable journals on topics related to language processing and cognitive neuroscience.
