Biography

Mascha van 't Wout-Frank, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cognitive, Linguistic & Psychological Sciences at Brown University. She completed her doctoral degree in Cognitive Neuropsychiatry at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, focusing on emotion processing and psychosis-related disorders, including schizophrenia. After obtaining her PhD, Mascha engaged in postdoctoral research at the University of Arizona and subsequently at Brown University, concentrating on neural decision sciences employing game theory methodologies. Her research is particularly centered on the application of noninvasive brain stimulation techniques to modify negative emotions such as fear and regret associated with pain. She is affiliated with the Center for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology at the Providence VA Medical Center and the COBRE Center for Neuromodulation at Butler Hospital, investigating the effects of brain stimulation on improving treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder.
