Dr. Masi Mohammadi

Biography

Masi Mohammadi is a Full Professor specializing in Smart Architectural Technologies at Eindhoven University of Technology. He leads the research program ‘Empathic Environment’, focusing on the technological and social aspects of smart healthy neighborhoods. His goal is to develop an evidence-based framework for integrating emerging technologies—such as domotics, artificial intelligence, robotics, and the Internet of Things—into architectural concepts and systems. Mohammadi emphasizes the importance of balancing architecture, technology, and the actual needs and preferences of end users. He implements design principles and methods through Living Labs in the Netherlands, exploring the next generation of smart homes and examining the impact of interventions within socio-spatial contexts. He is actively involved in systemic research to evaluate new housing typologies and their effects on health, wellbeing, and social engagement. Mohammadi supervises 17 PhD and PDEng researchers, guiding their work in testing real environments with stakeholders. His work has garnered grants from various organizations, including the Interreg Europe programme and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. Additionally, he has served on more than 20 national and international committees and networks, contributing to publications on smart healthy homes and delivering over 120 keynotes and invited talks worldwide.
