Massimo Baioni is a member of the Department of Historical Studies at the State University of Milan since 2018. He taught Contemporary History at the University of Siena from 1996 until April 2018. He obtained the national qualification for full professor in December 2013. Baioni has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris 8 École Pratique des Hautes Études (Paris-Sorbonne) and has been part of the Executive Doctorate in Humanities studies at the University of Urbino since 2001.
