Biography

Massimo Chiaradia is a Senior Lecturer in the Section of Earth Environmental Sciences at the University of Geneva. His research focuses on the interactions within the Earth’s system, particularly the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and the Earth’s crust. Over the years, he has developed a strong interest in the geodynamic settings and petrogenesis of magmas, especially in relation to the formation of porphyry-type deposits at convergent margins. His work includes technical developments in the field of lead isotope analyses of whole rocks and ore minerals, applying Pb-Pb stepwise leaching and Re-Os techniques. Chiaradia is currently investigating unconventional stable isotopes, such as chlorine, copper, zinc, and iron, to understand the petrogenesis of arc magmas and track environmental changes. His current research includes relationships between arc magma chemistry and the genesis of porphyry-type deposits, the rates of magmatic processes, and the implications of andesite petrogenesis for crustal growth. He collaborates with researchers from various institutions, pursuing funded projects that explore chalcophile metals in subduction zones and establishing stable iron isotopes in lake sediments as palaeoclimate proxies.
