Biography

Masuma Mishu is a lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London. She is a visiting senior research fellow at the Department of Health Sciences, University of York. Masuma graduated as a dental surgeon from Dhaka Dental College Hospital, Bangladesh in 2005 and has five years of experience as a clinical dentist. She completed her MSc in Dental Public Health in 2011 and earned her PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from UCL in 2017, supported by a Commonwealth Scholarship. Between 2017 and 2022, she worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of York, focusing on mental health and addiction within a global health research group. Her research interests include health inequalities, improving oral health for children and individuals with mental health conditions, and tobacco control policies in South Asian countries. Notably, she is the co-principal investigator of a project aimed at enhancing tobacco cessation among diabetic patients in Bangladesh and has participated in several research initiatives addressing smokeless tobacco issues and mental-physical health comorbidity.
