Biography

Dr. Mathias Meine studied medicine at Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, from 1986 to 1992. In 1993, he earned his doctoral degree in medicine with a dissertation focused on intravascular ultrasound and its correlation with histopathology. He became a specialist in internal medicine in 2002 and in cardiology in 2004. Following his education, he moved to the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) in the Netherlands, where he has worked primarily as a cardiologist and electrophysiologist. In 2010, he received the European Accreditation for Cardiac Pacing and Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators from EHRA. Dr. Meine has led studies focusing on optimizing Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT). Recently, he served as the principal investigator in a multi-center randomized trial concerning remote patient monitoring for cardiac devices in Europe. In 2023, he was appointed as a professor specializing in cardiac implantable devices for heart failure.
