Dr. Mathias Payer

Biography

Mathias Payer is a security researcher and a professor at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in the School of Computer and Communication Sciences, where he leads the HexHive group. His research is focused on protecting applications against vulnerabilities, particularly in relation to memory corruption-type violations. He is interested in various aspects of software security, including system security, binary exploitation, effective mitigations, fault isolation, privilege separation, strong sanitization practices, and software testing through fuzzing techniques that combine binary analysis with compiler-based approaches.
