Dr. Mathias Payer

Biography

Mathias Payer is a professor and security researcher at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in the School of Computer and Communication Sciences. He leads the HexHive group, which specializes in application security with a focus on vulnerabilities related to memory corruption. His research interests encompass software security, system security, binary exploitation, effective mitigation techniques, fault isolation, privilege separation, and strong data sanitization. Payer is also engaged in software testing methodologies, including fuzzing, which integrates binary analysis with compiler-based techniques to enhance software safety. He holds positions in teaching and doctoral advisory roles in Computer Science and Communication Systems at EPFL, contributing to academic advancements within these fields.
