Mathieu Lussier is an Associate Professor of bassoon at the University of Montreal since 2014 and has a diverse career in concert music. He became the Artistic Director of Arion Baroque Orchestra in 2019 and served as the Associate Conductor of Les Violons du Roy from 2012 to 2018, leading this ensemble across Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States. Lussier was also the Artistic Director of the International Baroque Music Festival of Lamèque from 2008 to 2014, and has conducted numerous other Canadian orchestras. He is actively involved in chamber music, performing with the Pentaèdre ensemble in Montreal. For nearly twenty years, Lussier’s projects have centered on French repertoire from the Revolutionary period. He has dedicated three albums to the works of François Devienne for bassoon and has explored revolutionary music through various performances, including a notable recital that examined the use of music for propaganda during the French Revolution. An engaging communicator known for his humor, he has held prominent roles such as President of the Quebec Council of Music from 2012 to 2015 and President of CAMMAC from 2015 to 2017. Lussier is also a composer, with a catalog of over fifty works regularly performed across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In 2018, he contributed to the soundtrack of the award-winning film "La chute de l'empire américain" directed by Denys Arcand.
