Dr. Mathilda Mommersteeg

Biography

Mathilda Mommersteeg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Science at the University of Oxford. She completed her PhD in 2009 at the University of Amsterdam, where she worked under the supervision of Professors Vincent Christoffels and Antoon Moorman on the development of the conduction system in the venous pole of the mammalian heart. In 2010, she joined the laboratory of Professor John Parnavelas at University College London as a long-term EMBO fellow. Her research at UCL focused on deciphering the roles of the Slit-Robo signaling pathway in mammalian heart development. She also initiated a project investigating heart regeneration in Mexican cavefish, which was funded by the British Heart Foundation in 2012. Her post-doctoral projects laid the foundation for her current research interests, which focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying heart regeneration and development.
