Dr. Matias Carrasco Kind

Biography

Matias Carrasco Kind is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois. He specializes in data mining, machine learning, and astronomy, with a focus on clustering and the large-scale structure of the universe. His research encompasses multiple surveys and the development of machine learning techniques for scientific computing in data-intensive science. He has expertise in Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics, particularly in photometric redshifts estimation and applications. His work often involves generative predictive models and the formation and evolution of dark matter halos. He earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Illinois in 2014 and his M.S. in Astronomy from the same institution in 2011.
