Biography

Matias Margulis is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and Faculty of Land and Food Systems, as well as an associate faculty member of the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia. His research and teaching interests focus on global governance, development, human rights, international law, and food policy. Margulis has previously held academic positions at the University of Edinburgh, University of Stirling, University of Northern British Columbia, and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies. He served as the Cadieux-Léger Fellow at Global Affairs Canada during 2010-2011. In addition to his academic research, he has extensive professional experience in international policymaking, having served as a Canadian representative at the World Trade Organization (WTO), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). He has also advised the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, consulted for the Scottish Parliament, and worked with international NGOs, including the Brookings Institution. His recent publications include significant contributions to the discourse on food security and international trade.
