Biography

Matilde Marcolli is the Robert F. Christy Professor in the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy at the California Institute of Technology. Her research integrates the fields of mathematics and theoretical physics, with recent interests in the interaction of these subjects with information theory. In mathematics, her focus began in low-dimensional topology and branched into noncommutative geometry and algebraic arithmetic geometry. Within theoretical physics, she has primarily worked on quantum field theory and quantum statistical mechanics, exploring geometric models in cosmology, particle physics, and quantum Hall systems. More recently, her research has shifted towards the connections between information theory and computer science, examining the applications of geometric methods in statistical physics, coding theory, and computational linguistics. Her extensive work in these areas has been documented in numerous research papers accessible via her personal webpage.
