Biography

Mats Larhed is a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and currently holds the position of Vice-Rector for the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy at Uppsala University. He has significantly contributed to the development of the Beijer laboratory for drug discovery, and he is a member of the national SciLifeLab Board. He has led a working group focused on career paths for researchers, helping to implement Uppsala University's Charter & Code for Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R). His teaching experience covers pharmacy, chemical engineering, and biomedicine. He pioneered web-based examinations in chemistry courses, with over 30,000 views on his web lectures. Larhed has overseen 23 PhD students and is currently supervising Postdoctoral students. His main research interests include the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical agents for treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and inflammatory diseases, as well as developing new methodologies crucial for drug discovery. He has obtained various grants, including from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and the Swedish Research Council, and has published over 230 scientific articles along with numerous patents.
