Biography

Matt Freedman was a sculptor, graphic artist, performer, writer, and curator with a background in cartooning and anthropology. His work explored the consequences of DIY versions of modern spectacles and aimed to revive half-remembered cultural myths. Freedman's solo exhibitions took place in notable venues such as Pierogi Gallery, vertexList, Studio 10 Gallery, Valentine Gallery, Flipside, FiveMyles, and SculptureCenter. He performed at prestigious institutions including PS1 MoMA, Brooklyn Museum, and the Kitchen, and he curated projects at SculptureCenter and for Long Island University's Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. He received the National Endowment for the Arts Grant in 1991 and the New York Foundation for the Arts Grant for Fiction Writing in 2000. Freedman was also the author of the graphic journal 'Relatively Indolent Relentless', published by Seven Stories Press in 2014.
