Biography

Matt Keeling is a Professor with a joint appointment in the Life Sciences and Mathematics departments at the University of Warwick. He is the Director of the Zeeman Institute for Systems Biology and Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research (SBIDER) and the Co-Director of the JUNIPER partnership. His research focuses on using mathematical modeling to address real-world issues, specifically in epidemiology and the control of infectious diseases. He has contributed significantly to the UK Government's Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (SPI-M) during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been involved in numerous advisory roles related to infectious disease control. His research spans various areas including the modeling of vaccination strategies, disease evolution, and the statistical methods required to connect data with real-world problems. He has published extensively, with an H-index of 74 and over 25,000 citations. He has received several accolades for his work, including an OBE for his input during the COVID-19 pandemic response, the Weldon Prize, and the Royal Zoological Society’s Scientific Medal.
