Biography

Matt Reynolds is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Washington. He co-founded the RFID systems firm ThingMagic Inc, which was acquired by Trimble, and the energy conservation firm Zensi, acquired by Belkin. He is currently a co-founder of ThruWave Inc, a company focused on millimeter wave imaging technology. His research interests encompass millimeter-wave sensing imaging, RFID, energy efficiency, physical layer wireless communication, and physics-based sensing actuation. Matt completed his Ph.D. at the MIT Media Lab in 2003 and holds both S.B. and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, has received six paper awards, and was recognized with the 2024 UW ECE Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2018 ACM Ubicomp 10-Year Impact Award. He holds 87 issued patents and has 97 pending patent applications.
