Biography

Matt Smallcomb is currently a percussionist in Alarm Sound, a collaborative ensemble at the forefront of contemporary music, recognized as one of the vital original ensembles in the American music scene. His career spans diverse genres, and he has performed with leading artists such as Tyondai Braxton, Rashad Becker, the Knights Chamber Orchestra, Regina Carter, and many more. Smallcomb has recorded for prominent labels including Nonesuch, Sony, and Tzadik, and has held significant positions including the drum chair for the Broadway production of West Side Story and as a percussionist for The Cher Show. He has also performed in numerous Broadway productions such as Moulin Rouge, The Music Man, Les Misérables, and more. As an orchestral percussionist, he has served as Principal Percussionist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and has performed with various other respected ensembles across the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Smallcomb studied under notable instructors and currently lives in New York City with his wife, Sherry.
