Biography

Matt Syal is a professor in Construction Management at Michigan State University and an adjunct professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering Management) from Penn State University. Prior to joining the academic realm in 1988, Syal gained extensive experience working in the construction industry across the U.S., India, the Middle East, and Africa. He has conducted numerous research outreach projects, focusing on areas such as Construction Project Management, Housing, and the Sustainable Built Environment. Syal's involvement includes over 50 research outreach projects funded by various entities, including industry, U.S. state and national government agencies, and international foundations. He has published more than 100 refereed papers and over 50 project reports and monographs. Additionally, Syal has served as an advisor and consultant to more than 25 industry and government organizations both in the U.S. and internationally.
