Biography

Matt Valentine is a Lecturer in the Department of English and the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from the University of Texas with majors in Plan II and English and completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing at New York University. His professional background includes working as a journalist in Pennsylvania before returning to Austin. Matt has published stories and essays in prominent outlets such as The Atlantic, Washington Post, New Republic, and Salon, as well as various literary journals. His reporting on gun violence has appeared in Politico Magazine. In 2020, he co-edited a book titled Campus Carry published by Harvard Education Press. Additionally, Matt is an accomplished photographer, with portraits featured in New York Men’s Journal.
