Biography

Matteo Gianni is a full professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Geneva since 2022, having previously served as an associate professor from 2011 to 2022. He is a member of the Institute of Citizenship Studies and the Institute of Gender Studies at the University of Geneva. His earlier academic roles included assistant and senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science. He has conducted research visits at Rutgers University and the University of Toronto funded by the Swiss National Fund. From 2013 to 2019, he participated in the Social Science Research Workshop at Concordia University in Montreal. He co-chairs the Political Theory Group of the Swiss Political Science Association and has been involved in the NCCR – On the Move based at the University of Neuchâtel since 2014. His research focuses on normative political theory, migration and mobility, urban citizenship, and deliberative democracy, addressing topics such as political integration of Muslims in Switzerland and Europe, recognition theories, and ethical issues in migration.
