I am a social anthropologist interested in environment, economy, and time, primarily through the lens of peasant ways of life. Before coming to Fribourg, I participated in a research project at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, which focused on the past and present of dairy microbes and their interactions with animals and humans. As part of my doctoral project, I studied the development of transnational infrastructures in developing countries and the fundamental changes it has undergone since the 1990s. Using the example of the unconstructed Arun-3 dam in Nepal, I traced the emergence of a global civil society network against large dams, the withdrawal of the World Bank from financing such projects, and the recent resurgence of large dam constructions.
