Dr. Matthew Becker

Biography

Matthew L Becker is the Hugo L. Blomquist Distinguished Professor at Duke University, where he holds multiple appointments in the Departments of Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, and Biomedical Engineering. His research interests focus on the development of functional biomaterials, particularly in the area of biodegradable polymers with tunable physical and biological properties suited for applications in flexible electronics and various tissue engineering fields, including neural, orthopedic, and vascular engineering. He is also actively involved in the advancement of additive manufacturing processes and the creation of custom inks for 3D printing applications in medicine. With a strong background in organic materials, Becker leads the Becker Laboratory for Functional Biomaterials, a multidisciplinary group dedicated to addressing unmet needs in these fields. He has contributed significantly to the field through his research, resulting in numerous publications and involvement in medical device start-ups.
