Dr. Matthew Becker

Biography

Matthew L Becker is a distinguished professor at Duke University, where he holds positions in the Departments of Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, as well as Biomedical Engineering. He leads the Becker Laboratory for Functional Biomaterials, which focuses on the development of degradable polymers with tunable properties for applications in flexible electronics and tissue engineering. His work is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, merging chemistry, engineering, and medicine to address complex challenges in materials science. Becker's research interests include polymer chemistry, bioconjugate chemistry, molecular imaging, additive manufacturing, and various aspects of tissue engineering, including bone, soft tissue, neural, and vascular applications. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field, including being named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and recipient of the 2019 Carl S. Marvel Award for Creative Polymer Chemistry from the American Chemical Society.
