Biography

Matthew Byrne is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Adult Dental Care and an Honorary Consultant in Prosthodontics at the University of Manchester. He completed his undergraduate dental training at the University of Leeds and further obtained an intercalated degree in Biomedical Ethics. Following his Dental Foundation Training, he undertook a 12-month Dental Core Training role in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. Matthew was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and completed an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Primary Dental Care, during which he earned his PhD on the quality of primary dental care. His research interests focus on quality assessment and improvement in oral dental care, utilizing natural language processing on unstructured health texts. He actively contributes to professional committees and is a member of several dental research associations. Currently, he leads clinical initiatives at the University of Manchester's Advanced Dental Education Centre, further supporting capacity building in primary dental care research.
