Biography

Matthew Cerasale received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Purdue University, and he earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. At Henry Ford, he worked as an attending physician in the Division of Hospital Medicine and held several leadership roles, including Performance Improvement Director and Teaching and Research Director for the Inpatient Services Internal Medicine residency program. Cerasale assisted in implementing a quality improvement/patient safety-focused curriculum for Hospital Medicine. He also received his Master of Public Health from Michigan State University. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago and is the Director of Quality Improvement for the Section of Hospital Medicine, focusing on quality improvement curriculum for Internal Medicine residents. His major projects include EHR optimization and the implementation of evidence-based venous thromboembolism practices. Additionally, Cerasale is an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and is a Senior Fellow and current chair of the Quality Improvement Special Interest Group.
