Dr. Matthew Clayton

Biography

Matthew Clayton is a Professor of Political Theory at the University of Warwick, where he has been part of the Politics and International Studies department since 2002. His academic work focuses on distributive justice, the foundations of liberal political thought, and applied philosophy in the context of education and upbringing. Clayton has contributed to significant scholarly debates in these areas through his publications, including titles such as 'Independence of Children' (Oxford University Press, 2025) and 'Justice and Legitimacy in Upbringing' (Oxford University Press, 2006). Additionally, he co-edited the books 'Ideal Equality' (Palgrave, 2002) and 'Social Justice' (Blackwell, 2004), which explore various dimensions of equality and justice in society.
