Biography

Matthew Coley-O'Rourke is a theoretical chemist focused on understanding the static and dynamical properties of electrons in complex quantum materials. His research emphasizes the development of new computational methods that accurately describe entangled electrons and their principles. He employs these methods to make predictions related to quantum phase transitions, quantum magnetism, and electronic coherence in two-dimensional materials and nanomaterials such as quantum dots. Matthew completed his A.B. in Physics at Princeton University in 2017 and earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Caltech in 2023. Following his doctoral studies, he engaged in postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley before joining the faculty at Brown University in the summer of 2025.
