Biography

Matthew Edwards is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. His research applies high-power lasers to the development of optical diagnostics for fluids and plasmas, focusing on the study of intense light-matter interactions. He constructs compact light particle sources and combines adaptive high-repetition-rate experiments with large-scale simulations to explore new regimes in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and plasma physics. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE), a Master of Arts (MA), and a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University, where he graduated in 2012, 2015, and 2019 respectively. Matthew has held academic appointments as a Principal Investigator at the Stanford PULSE Institute and has served as a Lawrence Fellow at the National Ignition Facility Photon Science Directorate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring students in various courses related to mechanical engineering.
